HANGOUTS OF CULT TV SHOWS—
DON’T TRIP ON YOUR
THE FOREMANS’ BAT CAVE
(THAT ‘70S SHOW)
The Foremans’ basement is formally known as Eric Foreman’s “Bat Cave”. It’s where Eric’s friends spend most of their time hanging out. It could be said that the basement is their clubhouse and only those who are invited can come in. What goes on in Eric’s “Bat Cave?”– mostly the essentials such as hanging out, eating sweets, watching TV, and most famously sitting in a circle
MIKE’S UNDERGROUND LAIR
The notable basement from Stranger Things is beneath the Wheeler residence.
It’s the main hangout area of the Party. It’s usually used to run the Party’s
Dungeons & Dragons campaigns and sleepovers. It’s also known for the
famous pillow fort where Eleven slept in.
DECORATE YOUR SPACE
Make your basement the ultimate basecamp for you and your friends. Add fairy lights and sturdy tables to spice up the interior. Let’s not forget the paper lanterns and rugs.
THE TANNERS’ MULTIPURPOSE SPACE
Located under the kitchen, the basement in the Tanner house went through so many changes throughout the show. It was meant to be a garage but it ended up becoming a bedroom for Joey, Jessie’s studio, and Stephanie’s room.
INVEST IN STURDY FURNITURE
The Tanners’ basement is super versatile and was mostly used as a living space. Add some moveable and sturdy furniture and make plenty of space for family get-togethers. Make sure to invest in furniture that can adapt to the environment of a basement.
DOUG’S MAN CAVE
(KING OF QUEENS)
Doug Heffeman’s basement was supposed to be the ultimate man cave. It was
finally complete when he got his 70 inch TV. Much to his dismay, his wife insists that
her newly widowed father should stay with them and urges Doug to give up his
basement. The results? A lot of interesting stories and a unique situation.
BEWARE OF MOLD GROWTH
You don’t need a 70 inch TV to make your basement the ultimate hangout spot. You do need some decent furniture and nice wooden walls like Doug has. Wood is prone to mold growth when damp, so look out for any signs of moisture and water during rainy seasons.
(FREAKS AND GEEKS)
Nick’s basement from Freaks and Geeks might make you want to have your own underground hangout. It’s comfy with great furniture, dim lighting for that ambiance, and exceptional music. Add some artwork, scented candles, and a couple of blankets— you’ll impress visitors and we bet they won’t want to leave.
DON’T FORGET TO BLOW OUT YOUR CANDLES
Add blankets and pillows to make it a comfortable spot. A touch of candles gives it a different ambiance but fire damage can be a pain to clean up. Try to avoid flammable items and don’t forget to blow out candles when you’re done using them.
Gibbs’ basement in NCIS is where he spends his free time when he’s not out there solving crime. This special agent’s basement is where he builds life-size boats by hand and relaxes with a bottle of beer with a baseball game playing in the background. Impressively, Gibbs has built 5 boats in total
KEEP YOUR BASEMENT SPACIOUS
If you’re the type to spend your free time on DIY projects, make sure your basement is spacious and only has the essentials like Gibbs does.
Tony Soprano’s house is massive. So, his basement is a bit of a letdown compared to the whole house. We expected the mobster to have a lavish hideout. In reality, Tony’s basement is just like any other basement. There’s an ironing board, a laundry machine, and a pantry. Let’s not forget the neglected water heater that flooded the place.
THE UNDERGROUND OFFICE
The Brownstone residence is spacious. So, when Watson made the basement into an
office, it wasn’t a surprise. It’s also a great place to hang out while solving crimes. The
dimly lit room gives it a mysterious feel that’s perfect for a crime-solving duo.
IMPROVE AIR CIRCULATION AND DECREASE MOISTURE
Keep your books in tip-top shape with a dehumidifier. Air circulation in a basement can be minimal and mold thrives on moisture. To prevent mold growth and improve the air in your basement, opt for a dehumidifier or better ventilation.
THE CONTAINMENT UNIT
The Containment Unit in Ghostbusters is a storage facility located in the basement of the Firehouse. It’s a spacious grid with lasers that holds all the ghosts and entities the Ghostbusters catches.
The Mermalair or the Sea Cave is the secret hideout of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.It’s as cool as the name sounds— the Mermalair holds weapons, has various rooms, and it’s where the invisible boatmobile is hidden. Entering the Mermalair can only be done through a secret switch that activates a secret door under a couch.
CATCH LEAKS EARLY ON
Adding some nautical elements to your basement can be a nice touch for decoration. However, leaks are never fun to clean up. Make sure to check for occasional leaks to avoid long-lasting water damage.
PROFESSOR UTONIUM’S LAB
The Powerpuff Girls were created in Professor Utonium’s laboratory in the basement which makes this spot a big deal. Since it’s a laboratory, it’s full of dangerous chemicals and test tubes. When he’s not with the Powerpuff Girls, Professor Utonium is working in his lab.
PUT YOUR CHEMICALS IN A SAFE, COOL, AND DRY PLACE
Avoid chemical spills or contamination by keeping your flammable fluids in safe, dry, and cool spaces. If you have kids running around the home, place your chemicals in hard-to-reach places.
