What would the Dark Lord of the Sith’s basement be like? Would it be dark and empty
as his soul or filled with an impressive collection of weapons to match his epic lightsaber
skills? We’ll never know, but that doesn’t mean we can’t imagine.
Here’s our take on what Darth Vader’s underground hideout
would be like if he had one.

A Shrine
for Padmé

Despite his cruelty and scary demeanor, Darth Vader’s love for Padme remains true. His basement would have a shrine dedicated to Padme, complete with flowers and candles to remember her by.

Displays for
His Lightsaber

In his basement, Darth Vader would have fancy displays for his small collection of powerful lightsabers. Also, in the memory of Ahsoka, his Padawan apprentice, he would display her lightsaber in a special case.

A Work From
Home StatioN

When Darth Vader isn’t on the Death Star, he’ll man the desk at home. His work-from-home station would include a durasteel office table filled with star maps and plans for scheming and coming up with his next strategy to destroy the Jedi and bring order to the galaxy.

A Mini Arcade

During his downtime, Darth Vader would likely retreat to his gaming corner filled with dartboards, a flight simulator to practice his flying skills, and podracing video games to indulge in his childhood hobby.

Well Maintained

“I don’t like sand. It’s coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.” To keep any debris or unwanted liquids at bay, Darth Vader’s basement would have to be regularly maintained and patched up immediately if there are leaks or cracks. It would also be cleaned routinely by a customized black Roomba vacuum to diminish any risk of sand.

PRO TIP

Regularly observe your basement for any leaks or cracks.

One of the most essential tips to prevent water damage and mold growth is regularly checking your home for any signs of leaks or cracks. The earlier you repair them, the less damage you’ll have to deal with later on.

A Workshop for Crafting Droids

Before he turned over to the dark side, Darth Vader was an avid droid enthusiast and loved building them. A workshop for crafting and repairing droids would be his other favorite place to be, other than being in his Bacta Tank.

Dim LightinG

The Dark Lord prefers his basement to be dark to match his gloomy ambiance. Also, since it’s built into a dark castle at Mustafar, surrounded by hot lava, natural lighting is impossible to get. To add a pop of color, he would decorate his basement with some red lava lamps as a tribute to the volcanic planet.

Full of Cabinets and Storage for Chemicals and Skincare

Along with many sanitizers to keep his skin clean, Darth Vader also requires many skincare products to keep the itchiness away. Cabinets and storage boxes are placed strategically to keep products safe and away from a toddler’s reach— not that there will be any wandering around Fortress Vader.

PRO TIP

Store your chemical products safely.

Most homeowners use their basements to store chemicals or cleaning products. Some chemicals are flammable, so it’s essential to keep them properly in storage boxes or shelves to prevent any spillage. Basements can become extremely warm and humid during the summer months, which increases the risk of fire damage when flammable materials are involved.

Air Purification System for Breathing

Darth Vader’s ominous breathing isn’t just for show. He has a hard time breathing due to the damage he sustained from his duel on Mustafar and needs extra support to breathe properly. Due to this, his basement’s air would need to be purified for him to walk around comfortably without his heavy armor.

A Meditation Chamber and a Bacta Tank

Being repeatedly jabbed by needles and walking in heavy armor is sure to drive the Dark Lord to the brink of insanity. To stay sane, we would guess he’d meditate regularly and take soothing baths to relax. The Bacta Tank baths also cleanse his skin and relieve the prickling and irritation.

PRO TIP

Keep your basement dry.

Your basement is whatever you want it to be—a place where you can store your items or a place to relax. However, be careful with a bath inside your basement as it can increase moisture and cause mold growth. A walk-in tub is a good option.

Floors made of Durasteel and Mandalorian Iron

Despite Darth Vader’s fluidity in slaying his enemies with ease, his armor is not light at all. It is said to be 265 lbs in total. To ensure that the floors don’t collapse, Darth Vader’s basement and stairs would have to be made with Durasteel and Mandalorian Iron— materials that are known to be extremely durable and robust.

PRO TIP

Choose the right flooring and foundation for your home.

Take the time to observe your basement floors and what you intend to use your basement for. If you’re going to use your basement for storage, consider rubber flooring instead of wooden flooring. If you’re going to use your basement as a media center, consider investing in bamboo or wooden flooring.

Equipped With a Smart Temperature Regulation System

Darth Vader’s charred body requires extra care and maintenance. One of the requirements includes regulated temperature. His armor is also equipped with this technology to keep him cool and comfy beneath all that clunky metal.

PRO TIP

Invest in a dehumidifier or air conditioner to keep your basement free from moisture.

Moisture is a basement’s worst enemy. With little air circulation and lighting, basements are prone to mold growth when moisture is introduced into the equation. So, keep your basement ventilated with air conditioning or dehumidifiers if needed.
